GENERAL SURGEON, CERTIFIED BY THE AMERICAN BOARD OF SURGERY
If I didn't absolutely love what I do, I promise you there's no good reason to wake up at 2:00 a.m. when the pager goes off and head to the hospital to do an emergency appendectomy. I love my sleep and my sleep loves me. But, there is something about the O.R. that's in my blood. When I ask the middle school and high school kids why they want to be doctors (career days are always a nice break from clinic and the O.R. every now and then) they say what many expect, “I like helping people. . .”
Well, if you are reading this you have either already been referred to me by your primary care doctor or you are searching for a general surgeon on your own. Either way, I will let you in on a secret if you promise to tell only those you care about (just kidding) After you have checked to make sure the surgeon is “in-network”, does the type of surgery you need, and gone hither and yon on the internet. Ask yourself if you know whether or not they love what they do and why.
Just like our firefighters and police officers, wanting to help people is a part of it no doubt but honestly there is a whole other huge part that is just “in the blood.”
I thought you should know. Now you can read through the short version of what I call “the stuff” that you might be looking for to feel confident about your general surgeon. Confidence is key.
